Biographical / Historical
Vocalese master Jon Hendricks celebrated the millennium by revisiting his musical past and creating a legacy for the future. A reunion with Annie Ross at New York’s Blue Note brought rave reviews and a validation of their lasting contribution to American music. Jon is also preparing to launch the first collegiate program to teach the art of vocalese at the University of Toledo. In addition to being an articulate spokesperson for jazz, Jon is a man of wide ranging interests. He offered his opinions on religion, health care, politics, music and the human race during this first of two interviews for the Hamilton College Jazz Archive.
