Handwritten bound notebook by Oren Root, class of 1833, professor of mathematics, astronomy, and mineralogy. First page headed "Solutions to the Mechanical Problems in the Appendix to Venturoli's Mec. Clinton 1834 -- some of the notes were prepared in 1851 and in 1855 -- by O. Root" (Elements of the Theory of Mechanics by Giuseppe Venturoli; a translation by Daniel Cresswell was published in London in 1822)

From Richard G. French, professor of astronomy at Wellesley College. He purchased the notebook from The Bookery in Ithaca, NY; the owner of the Bookery, Jack Goldman, recalls that he purchased it from L. Pearce Williams, professor of the history of science at Cornell University.
