Letter, stampless, Jan. 21, 1851, from Prof. Oren Root (class of 1833) to James Lanyon, Agent of the Cheshire Mines (Conn.), regarding minerals for Root's collection. Ambrotype photograph in case, of young man with large mustache and spectacles (added or altered by what looks like pen and ink but is probably scratching on the image), note on back: Old Gigs, Wardwell, Sigma Phi, Ham. Coll; Edward Herbert Wardwell, class of 1863, member of Sigma Phi, in U.S. Army in Civil War.
