Letter from S. Manning to William Jessup in Montrose, PA, dated Gilbertsville, 21 April, 1842, about Joseph R. Dixon, recommending him for a position in charge of an unspecified Academy. ALS, stampless cover, 1 sheet folded, text on first leaf, address on last, remains of wax seal. William Jessup had an honorary degree from Hamilton College (1848). Samuel Manning was a member of the Hamilton College class of 1821 (but graduated from Union in 1821). Joseph Raymond Dixon graduated from Hamilton College in 1837; he became the first principal of Cortlandville Academy in 1843.
