Letter from Louis Homri Deloss Crane, class of 1845, Clinton, NY, to his cousin Miss Lucinda H. Hicks, North Bloomfield, Trumbull County, Ohio, dated Nov. 8, 1844. Stampless cover with small red wax seal; one sheet, folded to make four pages; writing on three, address on fourth page. On Hamilton College letterhead, with engraving showing Chapel and three dorms (North, South, and Middle). Letter mentions politics [presidential candidates Clay, Polk, and Dallas], local family and friends, and includes a story of Charlotte Comstock of Clinton who had secretly married "a classmate of mine by the name of Curtiss"--presumably Lucius B. Curtiss of Clinton, non-grad of class of 1845--and speculation as to whether their parents would cause the marriage to be annulled. Mentions James Eells [class of 1844] and Dan Eells [1848]; Professor [Marcus] Catlin [1827] and his wife.
