Scrapbook or album: One volume containing photographs, signatures, programs, letters, academic records, schedules, newspaper clippings, dance cards, menus and other memorabilia, from Robert H. Chastney's years at Hamilton, 1919-1923. Robert Hamilton Chastney graduated from Hamilton College in 1923. At Hamilton, he was a member of the Chi Psi fraternity. He received an M.A. from Columbia in 1926, a Ph.D. from New York University in 1933 and an honorary Doctor of Literature degree from Norwich University in 1958. From 1923 to 1942 he worked at the Townsend High School in New York City, rising to the position of director. Mr. Chastney then spent half a year at Hunter College before becoming principal at Montpelier High School. He retired in 1967. During his life, Mr. Chastney was president of the New England Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, the Vermont Mental Health Association, and the New York Classical Club. He was also the coordinator of Vermont Secondary Schools and a trustee of Bethany Congregational Church. Mr. Chastney died on October 21, 1977, at the age of 77, survived by his wife, Mary.
